Your Feedback:
Melanie and everyone else at the school was fabulous. I learned a lot in a short time and now feel very confident on a small sailboat. Melanie was very accommodating with schedules for busy working people! I highly recommend this school for learning sailing in a small, comfortable, low stress environment!

My husband and I took ASA 101 with Melanie this past summer. Melanie is not only a seasoned sailor, but also a skilled and experienced teacher that simplifies sailing terminology and concepts. She provides reinforcement of the body of knowledge needed for safe sailing and ASA certification in the classroom and on the water, she is patient and easygoing. We had a great experience and will return for other ASA courses in the future.

Your Feedback:
We met Melanie through our interest in West Wight Potters. My husband is a very experienced sailor and I was apprehensive about even being on a sailboat. (We are both over 65 and newly weds). We spent a day sailing with Melanie and eventually bought a used Potter. I enjoyed and trusted Melanie so much that I was determined to learn to sail and enrolled in Sailing 101. Melanie's instruction was thorough, comprehensive, professional and full of common sense and humor! With Melanie's guidance and encouragement, I have a solid grounding in the basics and the confidence to continue to practice and enjoy sailing. One of the things that I appreciated most was that after spending two days at the Baltimore site, we spent the third day on our own Potter in the Delaware Bay, fine tuning what I had learned on the boat that I would be using. My husband learned a great deal from Melanie as well!

We recommend Melanie without reservation!

Well worth it to take 101 for the new sailor or for one like me who has learned to sail by the seat of their pants, needs to know more and get more confident of their skills. Melanie is a top notch instructor and will put you at ease from the minute you meet her. Loved that I could transfer everything I learned when sailing our 19ft Potter (a little older and grayer around the gills). Came aware from the class with greater confidence not only in myself but our boat. Looking forward to taking more courses with Melanie.

Yay!, I just finished Sailing 101. Melanie is a great instructor. She is an ASA certified instructor and will ensure your safety while you learn and enjoy your training on the water. Her training boat is excellent and easy to maneuver, she also knows everybody around and you will find opportunities to meet up with other sailors and keep on learning way beyond your 3 days of class, you will get great tips from her. If you are thinking about taking classes just go for it and call her!, Seriously you will learn how to sail! :)

Where to start? I met Melanie at the Annapolis Sailboat show and knew immediately that I wanted to take ASA 101 with/from her. Melanie scheduled the classes with my hectic schedule in mind in October and November 2014. The classroom and practical instruction were first rate and instilled in me a sense of confidence in the boat that I did not expect. Melanie has a unique skill to explain the complicated and to give numerous examples to clarify difficult(for me)concepts.

I recommend Melanie without reservation as an instructor and as a fun person to sail with under any circumstance.

I took delivery of my West Wight Potter 19 today. It was expertly handled by Melanie Maxwell of Mid-Atlantic Sailing School. Melanie gave me hands on comprehensive review of the boat in time for winter storage. I had the pleasure of visiting her at the school in Baltimore, she was gracious, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. As a novice I felt intimidated by the whole experience but her cool assurance has made me confident about sailing. Melanie even persuaded my wife (no easy task mind you) to sail with me. I took ASA 101 in New Jersey where I live. Should there be additional lessons for me in the future, for sure they will be at the Mid-Atlantic Sailing School. Jeff Barber.

I purchased a new 19 ft WwPotter in May of 2014, after seeing Melanie's boat at the Annapolis boat show. Melanie came to my house for the arrival of " Lady in Red" and helped me with the entire process of rigging her. I would never have been able to do this without her! Melanie is a hard working, very dedicated, and loyal woman, who will never leave you without answers! Most importantly though, she makes the process fun! We laughed continually, and I consider her a great friend and one I could call any time. I highly recommend Melanie as a sailing instructor- her positivity, sailing knowledge, and energy make her top notch in this business.
Sincerely, Donna Towers
